The renown Corsair Creeds that feared the galaxy were severly cripped by the Schism: they remained relatively unaffected by the insurgence of the Tech Armies, but the end to interstellar travel meant that the Whaleships were stuck in the star system they found themselves before the Beacons broke.
Luythen had some minor conflicts going on at the time of the Schism, and half a Dozen different crews were involved in the system. All of them found themselves cut off their larger fleets, and had to find a new way to pay for fuel and sustenance aboard their nomadic homes.
Two of the Whaleships, the Lepton Sonata and the Midnight Krill Bloom soon resorted to downright piracy, exploiting the increased short-range traffic of lightly defended vessels, gaining an infamous reputation and several bounties. There have been few sighting of both crews, but it’s speculated that they’re hiding within the asteroid debris along Themis’ Orbit.
Most of the other Whaleships remained loyal to their traditions, and spent the time after the Schism serving different powers and boarding spaceships under the protection of a letter of marque.
Compared to the old days, the Corsairs have however become more brutal and less attached to their moral code, and their reputation of honorable fighters is slowly fading away.
Two of the most notorious Whaleships are the Deuterium Reflection, serving as a security guard for the Esperia Parliament on Claeo, and the Ocean’s Lament, Currently at the service of the Colonial Army, in several theaters of war including the recent skirmishes on Sauguro.
There is one notable exception to the way Corsairs maintain their way of life, and it is the Double Ended Harpoon, who after a few decades and a letter of marque expiring, decided to finally settle on Archon, Taking posses of one of the unclaimed large plateau that had been ravaged during the war with the Tech.
While the enormous whaleship itself did not survive the landing entirely intact, most of its parts got salvaged and the crew had enough resources to build a proper city among the canyons and the vast plains. Many others, survivors of the Schism and ambitious mercenaries, joined the settlement, creating what is now known as Harpa, one of the most influential cities on Archon.
