Most of the surface water present was a result of terraforming, and has since frozen on the surface, though beneath this permafrost crust are warmer, more temperate waters, kept tolerable by the activity of hydrothermal vents. It is not clear to the humans who inhabit Ruun what life might exist in these underwater havens.

The surface of the planet is dotted by Factory-Cities which exploit the fearsome energy released from the plant’s core to run their vast fabricators, producing much of the refined materials needed by the rest of the inhabitants of the system. without any risk of ecological damage to either Claeo or Archon.

The factory cities and their output is controlled and managed by the Ordinators of the Horstfruden Conglomerate, a vestige of a once multi-system megacorporation, but despite the Schism, still a powerful force to be reckoned with. But the disparity between the Ordinators and those who dwell on high in the Horstfruden Orbital Station and their rich, lavish and pampered existence, and the harsh conditions suffered by the ground dwellers of the factory cities continuously foments unrest. The subjugation of the ground workers by the Ordinators is more difficult for them now, and it can surely only be a matter of time until discontent turns to outrage and outrage into action.
